Course Outcome(CO) for I-VIII Semester Subjects(R2013)

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering was established in the academic year 2001 with an intake of 60 students and faculty strength of 11 with a Professor & Head and got into a state of solid consolidation, in the years that followed, with the innovation of technology brilliant and highly sophisticated laboratories. The department is functioning under the inspiring leadership of Prof S. Nagammai Qualified and experienced faculty members are an asset to the department. The department has well qualified & dedicated faculty members with different field of specialization. The laboratory is well equipped with all latest instruments to cater to the need of the syllabus and it is altogether worth about 60 lakhs. This department is interdisciplinary, aiming to impart quality education to students and preparing the prospective engineers to shoulder key positions in vital industries and departments of national and international importance. As part of industrial and practical exposure, visits to various industries are arranged. Industrial training and internship is imparted to the students during summer and winter vacation. The department has always been prompt to ensure the excellence of the students with the organization of periodical seminars on current technical development. The latest advancements in the fields of technology and current affairs have been brought in for the easy access of the students.

SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE DEPARTMENT

The department has dedicated faculty members with different field of specialization.
Excellent teaching learning environment.
The laboratory is well equipped with all latest instruments to cater to the need of the students.
It is a pride to mention that every year our students are bagging at least 5 university ranks.
Our students are placed in reputed companies like Honeywell Technologies, Infosys, Wipro, CTS, TCS, etc.
Started National Instrument Lab VIEW Academy in the year 2015-16 and two of our students were recognized as NI Certified Lab VIEW Associate Developer(CLAD).
The department has signed MoU with Yokogawa India limited, i max Industrial Automation Technology, Prolific systems (P) Ltd and National Instruments, Bangalore.
Organizes in house training program such us DCS, SCADA, PLC, PCB designing, MATLab, Lab VIEW etc., so as to provide industrial exposure to the students.
Organizes mini-project contest every year to develop the practical skill of the students.

To foster the graduates with excellence in innovation and research by imparting quality education in Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering and its allied areas.

MISSION

To produce competent professionals with social concern and ethical standards to cater the needs of Process automation industries and its associated fields.

Program Educational Objectives(PEOs)

The Educational Objectives of the Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering (EIE) Programme represent major accomplishments that we expect our graduates to have achieved three to five years after graduation. More specifically our graduates are expected:

I. To design, analyze, develop and realize complex Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering problems.
II. To apply the emerging technologies in instrumentation and allied fields.
III.To work effectively as an individual and as a member of multidisciplinary team.
IV. To exhibit professionalism and ethical values in an eco friendly manner.

PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOMES (PSOs)
Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering Graduates will be able to:

PSO1:Apply the fundamentals of mathematics, science and engineering knowledge to identify, formulate, design and investigate complex engineering problems of electric circuits, analog and digital electronic circuits, process control and instrumentation field.
PSO2: Apply appropriate techniques and modern Engineering hardware and software tools to design, implement & evaluate the control, measurement, process and instrumentation system to engage in life- long learning and work effectively as an individual and in a multidisciplinary team.
PSO3: Understand the impact of Professional behavior and ethics, communicate effectively with engineering community and the society.
Program Outcomes(POs)
Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering Graduates will be able to:

PO1: Engineering knowledge:Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
PO2: Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences.
PO3: Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
PO4: Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
PO5: Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
PO6: The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
PO7: Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
PO8: Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
PO9: Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
PO10: Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
PO11: Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.
PO12: Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

PROCESS CONTROL LABORATORY []

The department has full fledged air-conditioned process control lab. In this venue, lab courses such as process control and computer control of process is carried out.

ProcessCtrl Process control lab enhances the student’s ability and provides a real time experience as in the process industries. The students are studying the characteristics of various process control loops such as temperature, liquid level, flow and pressure systems. The effect of various control actions for a particular process is being observed and an optimum controller setting is determined using different control algorithms.

In control of process laboratory, the students are explained with the concept of controlling different continuous /discrete process, using computers. The complex control system is simulated using MATLAB package. The students are given ample training to draw ladder logic diagram for a given sequence of operations thereby converting it into PLCs program format and the corresponding simulation/real time results are observed.

PROCESS CONTROL LABORATORY II []

Process Control Laboratory –II

The Laboratory is the extension of the Process Control Laboratory I. It is equipped with various process systems and trainers for implementation of controllers for different processes to train in the areas of Process Control, Process dynamics and Computer control process. The key focus of the laboratory is to impart practical training to the students by providing on hands training in the pilot stations which serve as the miniature of the industrial set up.
Further multiple research activities are also carried out in the laboratory which resides Four tank System, Three Conical Tank System and Two Spherical Tank System. Both the tanks are funded by ------ for the benefit of staff and students. Students utilize the same for their in house projects at their project phase under the guidance of faculty members.

INDUSTRIAL INSTRUMENTATION LABORATORY []

In this venue, laboratory courses such as Industrial Instrumentation, Electrical and Electronics Measurement, Integrated circuits are carried out.

IIL Industrial Instrumentation lab is basically concerned with the calibration of various primary sensing devices and measurement of various non-electrical parameters such as temperature, torque, viscosity, PH and conductivity etc… Also the students are trained to analyze various process fluid parameters using UV spectrophotometer.

Electrical and Electronics Measurement lab is aimed to impart the students with an adequate knowledge and work experience of the different types of AC and DC bridges, measurement methods for different electronic instruments.

Integrated circuits lab is aimed to train the students in designing and testing of various combinational & sequential circuits using digital ICs and also testing of circuits using linear ICs.

TRANSDUCER LABORATORY []

In this venue, laboratory courses such as transducer, microprocessor and microcontroller, design projcect, electronic devices and circuit is carried out.

The aim of Transducer lab is to train the students in handling the different kinds of transducers like LVDT, Hall effect, thermocouple, strain gauge, RTD etc.

In Electronic devices and circuit lab the students are provided with sufficient knowledge to determine the characteristics and device parameters of various solid state devices.

The Microprocessor and microcontroller lab gives the opportunity to program using arithmetic and control instructions in 8085, 8051 and 8086 processors. The students are also given programming practice using interfacing kits.

Design project lab trains the student to prepare PCB (which includes preparation of circuit layout, drafting, etching etc) of various electronic circuits such as instrumentation amplifier, active filters, V/I & I/V converters, signal-conditioning circuits etc.
